1989
We were on fire
We promised everything
Such sweet liars
Graduation came
Then your wedding day
I fell deep into the void
Lost my way
So many things get in the way
Of saying what I want to say
Broken pencil, paper torn
What am I waiting for
This is my life
And it’s time to let you go
Solo
I held on tight
For so many years
I carried this heavy heart
To keep you near
What to we do
With an aging love
When all the songs are sung
And it’s not enough
Chorus x2
Honestly, this song is autobiographical fiction. I still have a special place in my heart for my first love, Rebecca. And I see no need to say good-bye to that perfectly formed longing I feel for her and that time in my life. I guess it came from a thought about the things we need to let go of to become who we want to be. Somehow, this is what I came up with. Not really sure why.
